Melatonin tablet

Presentation
Natsin : Each tablet contains Melatonin INN 3 mg.

Description
Natsin is a synthetic melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) which is chemically identical to the natural hormone melatonin. It is important in regulating sleep and normal biological clock. It significantly reduces the time needed to go to sleep, the number of night awakenings, and improves sleep quality.

Indications and usage
Melatonin is indicated in insomnia, sleep disorders related to the inappropriate timing of sleep and wakefulness, adjustment to a new day or night shift for shift workers whose preceding shift was or upcoming shift is going to be a night shift, insomnia or biological clock regulation in blind people, and for people who frequently travel to different time zones.

Dosage & Administration
One tablet orally approximately 30 to 60 minutes before bed. Dose may be increased if needed after three nights.
Night shift workers: One to two tablets at the desired bed time after the night shift.
Use in children: It is not for use in children or teenagers (below 18 yrs)

Side Effects
Generally well tolerated and side effects are fewer. Very few cases reported side effects such as nightmare, headache, morning grogginess, mild depression, and low sex drive. Side effects normally last no more than one or two days. Side effects persisting for more than 3 days indicate a possible overdose.

Contraindications
Melatonin is contraindicated to individuals under medical supervision with severe allergies, liver disease, endocrine disorders and in hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.

Precautions
Caution should be taken in autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, any condition that affects lymphatic system, osteoarthritis, depression or any other emotional disorder, diabetes, epilepsy, heart disease, leukemia, multiple sclerosis, or serious allergies. In these cases a physician should be consulted prior to use.

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy : Melatonin should not be taken during pregnancy. Moreover, couples who are trying to conceive a baby should avoid this.
Nursing Mother : Melatonin is not indicated in nursing mother.

Drug interaction
Concomitant use of the following drugs with melatonin should be avoided:
Tranquilizers, antidepressants or sedatives
Beta blockers
Large amounts of ibuprofen
Steroid medications.

Overdosage
There is no data regarding overdosage of melatonin in human.
