Mecolagin Mecobalamin tablet Presentation Mecolagin : Each film coated tablet contains Mecobalamin INN 0.5 mg. Description Mecobalamin is the one and only homologue of vitamin B12, found in the brain that participates in transmethylation as a B12 containing coenzyme. It plays a fundamental role in protein synthesis and stimulates methionine synthesis from homocysteine and helps to restore normal levels of DNA and RNAs in nerve cells. It also enhances the formation of lecithin (another major component of the myelin sheath). Indications and Uses * Peripheral neuropathies * Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis * Diabetic neuropathy* Parkinson's disease * Vertebral syndrome * Alzheimer's disease * Nerve compression syndrome* Diabetic retinopathy * Multiple sclerosis* Entrapment neuropathy * Lumbago * Drug induced neuropathy * Intercostal neuralgia Dosage and Administration Adults: One 0.5 mg tablet three times daily. Side-effects Generally mecobalamin is well tolerated. However, a few side effects like GI discomfort (including anorexia, nausea or diarrhea) & rash may be seen after administration of Mecobalamin. Use in pregnancy & lactation Not recommended during pregnancy & lactation. Use in children Not recommended for children. Storage This medicine is unstable in light. It should be stored, protected from light. Commercial Pack Mecolagin : Each box contains 2 blister strips of 15 tablets. |
