Presentation
Each capsule contains 250 mg Tetracycline hydrocloride BP.

Description
Tetrafast 250 mg capsule is a broad spectrum antibiotic. It is active against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria

Indications and Uses
* Ear, nose and throat infection: Sinusitis, tonsillitis, tonsillar abscess, pharyngitis, retropharyngeal abscess and acute otitis media.
* Respiratory tract infections: Acute and chronic bronchitis, lobar and bronchopneumonia, atypical pneumonia, lung abscess.
* Gastrointestinal infections: Amoebic dysentery, bacillary dysentery, enteritis.
* Venereal diseases: Non-gonococcal urethritis, gonorrhoea, granuloma inguinale and lymphogranuloma venereum, syphilis.
* Hepatic infections: Cholangitis, cholecystitis.
* Genito-urinary infection: Pyelonephritis ,cystitis ,urethritis ,prostatitis, epididymitis.
* Others: Acne, Rocky Mountain Spotted fever, Typhus fever, Q fever, Rickettsial pox, Tick fever, Bacterial endocarditis, Bacterial meningitis, Whooping cough, Brucellosis.

Contraindications
* Hypersensitivity to tetracycline
* Systemic lupus erythematosus
* Children and pregnant women
* Renal and hepatic dysfunction

Dosage And Administration
Tetrafast 250 should be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. The average adult dose of Tetrafast 250 is 1 capsule 6 hourly. This may be increased to one Tetrafast 250 capsule 6 to 8 times daily for severe infections. The recommended dosage for children above 12 years is 25 - 50 mg/Kg of body weight per day in equally divided doses. The general rule is to continue therapy for 1 to 2 days after the symptoms have subsided.

Precautions
Absorption of Tetracycline is impaired by milk, milk products and antacid containing Calcium, Magnesium and Aluminium.

Side Effects
Gastrointestinal disturbances like nausea and diarrhoea may occur. Sometimes glossitis, stomatitis or vaginitis occur in some individuals. In rare cases photosensitivity and dermatitis is recorded

Storage
Store in a cool and dry place, below 30°c, away from light.
